Contraception Q & A

What are my options for contraception?

Contraception choices range from one-time use methods, like condoms, which have the added benefit of protecting against STDs, to long-term options, such as IUDs.

Dr. Dejean and the team at Boca Women's Health offer a wide range of contraceptive options in a caring, supportive setting. They provide birth control for all life stages, such as when you’re:

  • Not ready to start a family
  • Between pregnancies
  • Unsure you’re done having children
  • Positive you don’t want children

A specialist in women’s health, Dr. Dejean is knowledgeable about the differences among various forms of birth control pills and contraceptive devices that are on the market today.

She helps you navigate your multitude of choices to find contraception that’s ideal for your life stage and medical history, and one that also carries the fewest side effects.

What are my choices for contraception?

Boca Women's Health prescribes and provides popular, FDA-approved birth control methods. This includes:

  • Hormonal birth control pills
  • Vaginal ring
  • Birth control shot
  • Contraceptive patch
  • Copper and hormonal IUDs

Another option is the Nexplanon® implant, which can prevent pregnancy for up to three years. The implant is a slim plastic device that gradually releases the hormone progesterone.

Dr. Dejean inserts the implant in your upper arm in a quick in-office procedure. If you want to become pregnant, she can remove it at any time.

What are my options for an IUD?

Boca Women's Health offers both hormonal and non-hormonal IUDs, which are long-lasting, reversible contraception.

Hormonal IUDs, such as Mirena® and Skyla®, release progesterone to prevent pregnancy and are nearly 100% effective. The devices last as long as six years and offer the side benefit of relieving heavy, painful periods.

Another method is Paraguard®, an IUD made of copper that prevents pregnancy for up to 10 years. If you’d like an IUD, Dr. Dejean can insert the device during your visit to Boca Women's Health. You also can return to Boca Women's Health whenever you’d like to have the device removed.

If you find the multitude of contraception options confusing, trust Dr. Dejean and the team at Boca Women's Health to help you select the best choice for you. Call today or book your contraception consultation online.
